In this episode we sit down remotely with Sam Archibald (Creative Director & Co-owner of Shortstop Agency) alongside photographer Aaron McKenzie Fraser - joining us from Nova Scotia.
The project being discussed? "Sketch Harbour" - a mythical creation which manifested in real life to raise awareness about Aaron's work as a photographer.
The move from a big city to the relative obscurity of small town Canada had left Aaron out of consideration for gigs by potential patrons and clients. Sketch Harbour was born to challenge the adage "out of sight, out of mind."
Essentially, Shortstop worked with the photographer to rebrand his neighbourhood "Ketch Harbour" and create a 'Department of Tourism' housed in the shed behind Aaron's house - complete with a designed aesthetic expressive of maritime bonhomie and artifacts (including pamphlets, post cards, matches and more.)
As a more impactful calling card, the photographer sends out care packages with artifacts from "Sketch Harbour" to prospective patrons and clients; engaging them directly with the mythical place he has created (and his photographic works of the place and the project which reside at https://sketchharbour.com/)
'Sketch Harbour' is an incredibly refreshing case of Canadian advertising which has won awards from the ADCC, Applied Arts and more.
